Increased patrol for the holiday weekend

Posted: Updated:
EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The week of the 4th of July brings more traffic to the roads and local police are gearing up for the increase of drivers on the roads.

More police officers are headed to the highways and streets to survey the surge of motorists on the road this week. Deputies in Effingham County will be out in full force looking for intoxicated drivers and others out breaking the law to reduce the amount of accidents.

Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie of the Effingham County Sheriff's Office says, "it's a holiday; there will be more people out and we just want everybody to drive with caution, obey the speed limits, do what you are supposed to do. People know what they are suppposed to be doing in that car and if they don't know what they are supposed to be doing in it, then they shouldn't have gotten a driver's license."

Expect to see more officers patroling the roads throughout the 5th of July.
