Camden dentist dies in apparent drowning

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Camden dentist Dr. William Biggins died Wednesday afternoon in an apparent drowning in Lake Wateree.

According to Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Capt. Robert McCullough, between 3 - 3:30 p.m., Biggins appeared to go down in distress while swimming about a mile from Clearwater Cove.

A group of people who were with the 58-year-old performed CPR, but Biggins did not survive, McCullough said.

Biggins' office is located on Fair Street in downtown Camden. 

According to the practice's website, Biggins, who has been practicing dentistry for 30 years, is past president of the South Carolina Academy of General Dentistry and a member of the American Dental Association & Kershaw County Dental groups.
