Arthur not impacting Tybee Island events

Posted: Updated:
TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Smiles are all around on Tybee Island since Hurricane Arthur has passed, with little effect other than currents - which means fireworks Thursday night are still on.

People are heading out to get a good spot and enjoy the beach.

Tybee police will be closing the inside lanes of Butler Avenue from about the curve down to Tybresia Street to make sure emergency vehicles can get on and off the island without being stuck in congestion.

So that will make the traffic even more of an issue.

Also, if you plan to hang out on the beach, the rip currents are strong and the waves are big.

Yhey have been flying a yellow flag Thursday and have extra lifeguards out.

"For the kids it's OK right now, but the waves are big and strong so we have to keep a good eye on them. We are just really excited about the fireworks," Tybee visitor Zenayda said.

Officials say you can see the fireworks from pretty much anywhere on the beach if you are set up along Butler.

They are hoping the winds die down as well so those fireworks go off without any real problem.
