Tariq Drabu said, Research shows serious concern in oral hygiene care in children throughout the UK.

(PRWEB) July 04, 2014

Tariq Drabu is a Manchester born dentist and specialist oral surgeon. He was one of the youngest dentists to ever graduate in the UK and worked in some of the busiest dental hospitals in the UK and Saudi Arabia. Dr Drabu received his Fellowship in Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is now the owner of the very successful Langley Dental Practice. He is also the Clinical Lead Dentist for the Oral Surgery Clinical Assessment and Treatment Services at NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale. He also mentors and tutors post graduate dentists in oral surgery at UCLAN Dental Clinic in Preston.

Tariq Drabu was speaking about an article published in 27 June 2014 on a dentistry website. The full article can be read here.

Tariq Drabu in Manchester said, It is a great concern that a recent study conducted by Mintel has revealed that only fifty three percent of parents throughout the United Kingdom take their children aged up to twelve for regular dental visits. It is even a bigger concern that only fifty seven percent of parents take the time to ensure their children are brushing their teeth properly on a daily basis.

Tariq Drabu went on to say, Parents have different views and many believe that mouthwash is necessary in children over the age of six, while only twelve percent believe that flossing is necessary for their children aged over six. My biggest concern is how many of these parents dont feel its necessary to take great care while their children still have their baby teeth. It is essential for children to start learning at a very young age the importance of oral hygiene and the correct methods, this can reduce the number of cavities they have when they are older.

Tariq Drabu closed in saying, Almost every single adult in the UK has visited their dentist with a dental cavity at some point, some more than others. I strongly believe that by teaching children from a young age the importance of oral hygiene, the correct method of brushing teeth and why flossing is important, we can reduce the number of cavities they experience in adults. Oral hygiene care in children is also essential for their own comfort, reducing the need for them to undergo treatment at a young age, possibly even eliminating the need for them to undergo general anaesthetic before the age of twelve.
