Cleanup after WIlmington Island storms

Posted: Updated:

Many trees were uprooted on Wilmington Island after strong storms rolled through overnight Thursday, damaging homes and powerlines.

Many people weren't expecting to spend their Fourth of July cleaning up a mess.

"Most of the damage we've seen is through Wilmington Park. I believe it's some sort of a twister or something, you can see where the trees have snapped and there was a small little area right through there, all the way back to Waltour Road is the most damage we've seen so far," Matt Herrigton with Herrington Tree Removal said.

Herrington said they were supposed to have the day off, but now the crews are working overtime.
