Celebrating the 4th across the area

Posted: Updated:

Fireworks and the American spirit flew through the air all day throughout the country, and towns in our area celebrated just like everyone else.

In Statesboro, thousands packed Mill Creek Park, enjoying fun and unique activities like frog jumping and greased pole climbing contests.

Celebrations continued at Fort Stewart in Hinesville. Service members and their families came on base to watch a salute to the nation. A howitzer round was fired for each state and territory in the United States.

The Parris Island Marine Band brought "Ooo's" and "Ahh's" to the crowds at the 4th of July celebration in Port Royal. The band played classic songs, ranging from classics like "Amazing Grace" and Broadway tunes including "The Wild, Wild West".

All events concluded with spectacular firework shows.
