Fire investigators say they're working to determine the cause of a three alarm fire that broke out at an apartment complex early Saturday morning.
The Charlotte Fire Department responded to the blaze on Campus Edge Circle at about 2:00 a.m. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers say the building was completely consumed by flames and the fire could be seen from the road leading into the apartment complex. Sixty firefighters battled the blaze for nearly 50 minutes before it was put out.
Security staff say the majority of people living in the apartment complex are students. The apartments are located near UNC Charlotte, but the complex is not affiliated with the school.
The fire affected 12 units and displaced 48 people and two pets. Fire officials say no injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross is providing assistance to those who have been displaced.
