Sandusky Co. crash takes woman's life, husband's condition still serious

SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A woman has died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle crash in Sandusky County on Friday.

The crash occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on Friday on US 20, near Mile Post 1, in Woodville Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Bruce Simkus, 42, of Woodville, was driving eastbound when his car ran off the road. Simkus struck a concrete culvert.

U.S., 20 was closed for about three hours, as crews worked to free the couple from the vehicle.

Both Simkus and his passenger, Megan Simkus, 41, were seriously injured and transported by Life Flight to a Toledo area hospital.

Megan Simkus later died at the hospital. Bruce Simkus remains in serious condition.

Troopers say alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

U.S. 20 has since reopened.
