Clean up still ongoing after Thursday night storm on Wilmington Island

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Down trees are still causing problems in the Wilmington Island area after a storm hit the area on Thursday afternoon around the Wilmington Park and Copperfield neighborhoods.

Wilmington Island was hit with a violent pop-up thunderstorm, carrying strong winds that brought down trees all over the island. The storm uprooted trees, snapped branches, with some landing on top of homes.

Power has been restored in the area and crews are working to clear trees as quickly and efficiently as possible two days after the storm surprised many residents.

One woman in the area of Penn Waller road is still concerned about her home phone service being out since the storm.

Residents have had to wait longer to receive help because of the July fourth holiday starting on Friday.

Waltour road is still closed at this time because of down trees.
