Residents spend holiday weekend cleaning up storm damage

Some Wilmington Island residents are spending their holiday weekend cleaning after storms rolled through earlier this week.

A lot of folks had planned to enjoy their free time with a three day weekend but some folks found themselves working hard in the yard Friday and Saturday.

We found crews lifting trees off cars and chopping up limbs. Thursday's storm created quite the mess. Trees fell on cars, homes, power lines and even blocked some roads.

We spoke to one resident who says crews had just manicured her yard right before the storm hit and now there is double the work than before.

"They came on Wednesday and it looked real pretty and nice and then that storm hit and it didn't look like a tornado but more like a weather war storm," said resident Judee Bane.

If there is any storm debris or damage in your area that still needs cleaning up, be sure to call city services by dialing 311
