Tybee Island businesses benefit from holiday crowd

TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Tourists were not the only ones enjoying Tybee during this busy week. Business also enjoyed the large amounts of traffic coming through their stores this Fourth of July week.

Many shops we spoke to said this year's Independence Day holiday has been great, despite the earlier concerns that then Hurricane Arthur could have interfered with the weekend. But, thankfully, the storm has gone and they saw huge crowds in their stores.

"Our businesses, I think, are doing very well in particular, because it really is a four-day weekend, if you think about it. The third, we had our fireworks; yesterday, the fourth, we always do well. And then you top Saturday and Sunday onto that. Today is just about as busy as it was yesterday," said said Jason Buelterman, Tybee Island Mayor.

The mayor wanted to remind folks to be safe both on the roads and on the water, especially during this busy holiday weekend.
