SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The identity of a man who died after his boat capsized Sunday near Little Tybee has been released.

Officials say Paul C. Moore, 52, of Savannah, died after a boat capsized at the Wassaw Sound near Little Tybee Island around 9:30 a.m.

The only passengers aboard the vessel were Moore and his wife, age 45.

According to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer First Class Lauren Jorgensen, both Moore and his wife swam to shore and then Moore started showing signs of a heart attack.

The Coast Guard out of Charleston was notified of the capsized boat at 9:48 a.m. and the Savannah Coast Guard arrived by J-hawk helicopter at 10 a.m.

The boat was a 16-foot center console boat that ran agound and was overcome by waves.

The Coast Guard rescue swimmer came to the couple's aid and performed CPR on Moore, but their efforts were unsuccessful and he was declared dead at the scene.

Moore and his wife were both taken to the Landings Harbor Marina by Marine Patrol and Coast Guard boats, where emergency crews were waiting to take the woman to Memorial University Medical Center.

The extent of the woman's injuries are unknown at this point.

DNR, the Coast Guard, Savannah-Chatham Metro's Marine and Aviation Patrols and Southside Fire and EMS all responded.

The incident remains under investigation by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
