BAXLEY, GA (WTOC) -

State troopers continue to investigate a crash involving an off-duty Appling County deputy and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian is in stable condition after the incident happened on Monday night at the corner of North Boulevard and East Allen Street in Baxley.

Troopers were back at the intersection on Tuesday, gathering more evidence, including surveillance video from a nearby Dairy Queen, trying to determine if someone was at fault.

"We still have several witnesses to interview, and we have video surveillances to watch to determine exactly what happened," said Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper Steven Newsome.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, two women with a stroller were trying to cross over North Boulevard when the crash happened. One woman was struck by the vehicle, but thankfully the stroller was not in the vehicle's path.

"We believe the stroller overturned as the female fell down," said Newsome. "The child is ok at this time and the female that got struck is in stable condition."

Troopers said speed does not appear to be a factor, and now they are trying to find out if the pedestrians darted into traffic.

They say the woman is expected to survive, and the witness interviews and surveillance video will help answer these questions.
