Authorities looking for suspects who beat, robbed a Long Co. man

LONG CO., GA (WTOC) -

A Long County man sustained a brutal beating during a holdup early Wednesday morning and authorities are now searching for two suspects in the case.

According to Long County Sheriffs Office Detective, Al Cato, 57-year-old John Rowell received a call from his friend Christi Marie Culbreth who told Rowell she needed a ride sometime after 1 a.m.

Rowell met Culbreth on Smith Berry Road and drove her to her residence. Culbreath told Rowell she had to pick up something from her home.

While Rowell waited in his car, one suspect, Cedric Harris allegedly tapped on the window of Rowell's vehicle.

When Rowell checked to see what Harris wanted, Harris allegedly began to pistol whip Rowell with a handgun.

During the assault, Culbreth allegedly began to beat Rowell with a pipe.

When Rowell was unconscious both suspects allegedly robbed him of cash and then placed him into the trunk of his vehicle, but later removed him and placed him into the trunk of Culbreth's car and then drove off in Rowell's vehicle.

Rowell was able to free himself from the vehicles trunk and called 911.

When emergency medical personnel arrived the transported him to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville where he received Stitches for his injuries.

Authorities are now searching for Harris and Culbreth who are both facing charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, highjacking of a motor vehicle and kidnapping.
