SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Chief Wesley Meadows, GM and CEO of Southside Fire EMS and Security is retiring.

Chief Meadows told senior officers he will officially be retiring in January, but he's stepping down immediately to allow for what he's calling "a smooth transitional period."

Chief Meadows has been with Southside Fire for the last 26 years, and he's worked in the fire industry for 44 years.

The assistant chief, Hugh Futrell, is also retiring in September.

There has been no word yet on who will take over either roles.
