Military themed sticker draws criticism, angry letter

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A Savannah woman's story has captured the public's attention after her sticker in tribute to her fiancé, saying "I Love My Soldier", drew the criticism of a mystery letter left on her windshield.

"I got in my car and noticed the paper on the windshield," said Ellen Wilson. "I drove off in case someone was watching, and then I grabbed it and read it and saw this lovely letter from this person."

Wilson's trip to Target turned a little scary and upsetting. Her "I Love My Soldier" sticker drew the venom of a nameless person with a mean-spirited letter, even threatening to slash her tires.

"How could someone do this?" she said. "I'm not mad. It's fine what you believe in and what I believe in, but I'm not going to hate you for it. But to attack somebody else, especially someone close to me, is a different story."

"If they are so concerned, why didn't they sign it," said retired Marine and American Legion and Veteran's Council member Jimmy Ray, who was less than impressed.  "It wasn't that good of grammar, and it was printed, and it wasn't signed. So, the gutless person, if you are listening, why don't you come forward and let us know who you are like the gentleman on Tybee did in his letter to the editor. He had to sign his name, and you see what he got."

A similar letter received backlash in the paper and on social media. After Wilson posted the picture of the letter, this person, whoever they are, is getting a piece of a lot of minds.

"This is real, and it happened, and I just don't want it to affect another military spouse," said Wilson.

Wilson removed the sticker, at the request of her soldier, but she said she is not done fighting.
