EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The Effingham County man who had been missing since Sunday was arrested after being found Tuesday night.

According to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, Doug Morris was arrested for driving through three states without insurance and avoiding authorities attempts to find out if he was okay.

Authorities said Morris also left his family of three kids behind. Since he travelled through three states, multiple law enforcement agencies helped search for him because they were concerned for a potential life threatening situation.

Effingham County investigators later found out he had knowledge of the search for him, and knowing hindered the investigation and cost a lot of tax payer money and resources, according to David Ehsanipoor.

"It is not a crime to run away, you can go to Alaska and live there for the rest of your life," said Ehsanipoor. "The issue we had is the threats he made by text and letters that his life was in jeopardy and that in itself launched a criminal investigation. He knowingly hindered our investigation into making sure he was ok."

He is currently being held at the Effingham County jail.
