The birth control safety center at DrugNews.net is alerting women using the Mirena IUD contraceptive of new information on the site. A recent lawsuit alleges the device caused a Kentucky woman to suffer vision problems from pseudotumor cerebri*.

DrugNews is a free resource created to give those using popular prescription drugs and medical devices the latest safety alerts, recalls, studies and legal news. Patients can see if others are experiencing similar side effects, avoid potential dangers and decide if they need legal advice.

The Mirena IUD was approved in the United States by the FDA in 2000 and is sold by German pharmaceutical company Bayer.

The resource center has previously added warnings from health experts about possible injury from Mirena IUDs. The FDA advised that patients can suffer perforation of reproductive organs during device implantation**.

Now, DrugNews has learned that a recent federal lawsuit alleges a Kentucky woman using the device also suffered permanent vision problems due to a condition called pseudotumor cerebri, or PTC*.

Court records show a federal judicial panel has also been asked to combine a number of similar cases into a special Mirena multidistrict litigation court for PTC, blindness and neurological claims***.

Anyone who suffered blindness, vision problems, hearing loss or was diagnosed with PTC while using a Mirena IUD is urged to speak with a lawyer about their legal options. However, DrugNews only recommends lawyers who are already handling Mirena lawsuits.
