Armed robbery at Plantation Point under investigation

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that occurred late Tuesday night outside a Bluffton apartment complex.

Sheriff's deputies responded to 897 Fording Island Road at the Plantation Point Apartments in reference to a robbery. When they arrived, they met with a 32-year-old male who reported being robbed at gunpoint by an unknown male subject.

The victim explained that he was visiting Plantation Point for the purpose of picking up a friend. When he arrived at the entrance he had trouble gaining access through the gate, so he pulled over to the side of the road.

While waiting for his friend to meet him at the entrance, the victim was approached by a black male. The suspect asked the victim if he was having trouble entering and the victim responded, stating he was waiting for a friend.

The suspect then grabbed the victim, pulled him from the vehicle, brandished a handgun and demanded money. After stealing the victim's cash, the suspect fled the area on foot. The victim did not sustain any major injuries during the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, between the ages of 20-25, 5'09", 190 pounds, wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans, and had short dreadlock-style hair.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with additional information to contact Investigator Sgt. J. Moran at 843-255-3422 or Crimestoppers.
