The Savannah Civic Center could be home to a brand new indoor football team starting next year.
Ellabell native Bobby Dammarell bought an X-league team, that he is renaming the Savannah Steam.
The indoor team would begin their season in March of 2015.
On Wednesday, Dammarell, who's been involved with semi-pro football for about six years is signing an agreement with the city.
"People from the surrounding
communities and surrounding counties will come to Savannah and drive in and eat
lunch or dinner before the games and maybe stay for an adult beverage after the
game," said Joe Marinelli of Visit Savannah. "If the team gets good, you will
have people from out of town and visiting cities. Either way, something like
that will be an enhancement to the Savannah experience."
They still need players and they're holding tryouts in Statesboro on July 20.
