FLORA, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Another burglary has occurred in the Flora area, and it happened just before Sheriff Randy Tucker held a news conference Tuesday to announce the arrest of three burglars.

Nineteen-year-old Devonte Stowers and 21-year-old Kevin Thompson were arrested after a high-speed chase and shootout with Madison County deputies that began as a burglary.

Twenty-one year old Derrick Booker, the third suspect, was shot by deputies. He is being treated at UMMC.

Gil Evans says his back door was kicked  in by intruders Tuesday before noon.  The burglars took a 55-inch TV and a shotgun, then shot one of his dogs in the face. The dog is recovering at a local vet.

Evans said, "I have said a prayer for them that they will change their ways because what they're doing is just a dead end road to Parchman, and I can tell you from working there, there's no such thing as a country club in prison."

Residents in the area say there have been four burglaries in the Highway 22 area this week alone.

The thieves are after high end electronics and guns.

There was a heavy police presence in the Flora area Wednesday.
