HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

Hinesville proclaimed Thursday as Ulrick John Day to honor the hometown star who is getting ready to play football on the biggest stage.

John, a graduate of Bradwell Institute and played college football at Georgia State, was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts. He's finished rookie workouts and will begin training camp at the end of the month.

On Thursday, Mayor Jim Thomas signed a proclamation and presented John with a key to the city.

"I thought it was pretty cool and a really big honor to have something like this. To make it to the NFL and be honored in your hometown like this is great," John said.

The rookie noted he knows he has a challenge to adjust his game from the level of competition he saw in college to the level in the NFL. But he plans to devote his energy and focus to honing the skills he needs.
