SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The American Red Cross is adding another tool to help keep you and your family safe in case of emergency.

They have launched six free Spanish language apps for disasters, home emergencies and live saving information for families.

The Red Cross apps give people local and real time updates that could save a life. Previously, users had to set their entire phone to either English or Spanish, but now it can be changed with the press of a button.

The apps also offer step by step instructions that let users know what to do before, during and after disaster.

"We have had several of the apps that have just recently toggled over from English to Spanish," said Red Cross Chapter Development Manager Esther Sheppard. "It is awesome because people have power within the palms of their hands. They are able to prepare before something happens, and if something happens. It is right there at your fingertips."

The apps are available for iPhones and Androids and can be downloaded for free.
