DENVER (KCNC/CNN) - Recording a lightning storm on his cell phone turned out to be a very bad idea for a Colorado man.
His garage wasn't as safe as he thought it would be.
Chad Greenlees says curiosity took him and his camera phone to what he thought was the safety of his garage around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Greenlees was struck by lightning, found seconds later by his daughter, who heard the crash.
"He was laying flat on his back, and he was shaking really bad," Leah Greenlees said.
She called 911 and was told not to touch him in case he still carried a charge.
Doctors released him from the hospital a few hours later with bruises and a bump on his head.
He believes the reason he's still standing here is because the main bolt did not hit him or perhaps it was a ground travel.
"Lesson learned. Don't play with mother nature," he said.
