Puppy recovering after being severely burned

Posted: Updated:

A puppy found in Savannah recovering after veterinarian officials said they believe someone burned it with either chemicals or scalding hot water.

Doctors said the puppy has a long road to recovery- he'a only 5-months-old and he won't be back to normal until after his first birthday.

Nearly 25 percent of Turbo's body was burned.

"He was in pretty bad shape when we got them," said Crystal Dasher with Loving Paws Pet Rescue. "His skin was and not to be too disgusting but it was really gross, it was hanging like melted wax off of him."

Dasher said Turbo was living at a home in Savannah. The owner posted on Facebook that she needed to get her dog help but didn't know what to do. That's when Dasher said she would step in and take the dog.

"She didn't say what exactly happened," she said."She kept him outside on the porch and at one point she thought the possums had gotten him."

She said the owner has told several different stories, saying the dog was scratched or possibly sunburned.

"No this dog was definitely burned by something," Dr. Kari Jenkins with Tybee Animal Care said.

Jenkins believes the dog was burned at least a week ago because infection had set in.

Dasher said Turbo will not be going back to its owner and is debating on filing a report for neglect.

"I may end up doing that because this puppy could have died and he is still not 100 percent guaranteed to survive," she said.

Turbo will have to have at least two to three more surgeries. If you would like to help with his medical bills you can make a donation in his name at Tybee Animal Care.
