A hot start to work week with the potential of storms

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Temperatures overnight will fall into the lower 70s across the Upstate while western North Carolina falls into the mid-60s.

Skies will be partly cloudy throughout with patchy fog developing after 2 a.m. in the mountain towns.

Monday will be hotter with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s under partly cloudy skies in the Upstate. Western North Carolina will see more in the way of cloud cover and climb into the upper 80s.

During the peak heating hours of the day, a few isolated thunderstorms can develop across the mountains and linger around for the rest of the day. Some of the storms may have to potential of moving into the Upstate late in the day.

Some of these storms may have the potential to become severe, bringing damaging winds and large hail along with it.

The Storm Prediction Center has included much of the mountains in an area of slight risk of severe weather for Monday afternoon as a result.

Tuesday will bring a higher chance of rain as well as cooler temperatures, bumping highs back into the upper and lower 80s.
