DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) - If you are entering downtown Douglas, you'll be greeted by a huge sign.

City officials are in the process of putting up two "City of Douglas" gateway signs on Highway 32 East and West. A Douglas citizen, the city engineer, Savannah College of Art and Design students and a local print company started working on the design about two years ago. The city manager says the signs will showcase the retail and commercial activity Douglas has to offer.

"This will hopefully help us showcase that we are a community that is doing challenging and great things, to showcase our community to help people have a sense of their coming into the city and sense of community feeling that they are here,” said Terrell Jacobs, Douglas City Manager.

The city is also hoping to put up two more signs on Highway 441 South and North. The signs are funded through SPLOST. The two signs on Highway 32 East and West are expected to be complete by the end of July.
