Neighbors: Man shot, killed landlord over electric bill

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Police arrested a Louisville man late Monday in connection with the shooting death of a landlord.

Anthony Jecker, 54, faces charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence. Metro Police questioned him for hours Monday while other detectives investigated an apartment building at the corner of Fegenbush Lane and Norbrook Drive in the South End.

Neighbors said Jecker shot his landlord over a dispute about an electric bill. Police didn’t confirm the details and the landlord’s name wasn’t immediately released.

About 20 family members waited several hours to identify the victim’s body. They wept and hugged once the Jefferson County Coroner moved the body outside the apartment building around 10 p.m. Monday.

The shooting happened on a busy side street in the Norfolk neighborhood where children and families were outside.

“Someone decided to do something that obviously killed someone, but also could’ve put a lot of other people in danger,” Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell said Monday afternoon.

Metro Police were not looking for any additional suspects after Jecker’s arrest, Mitchell said late Monday.
