Shanta Greene giving back to the community

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A Savannah woman who lost her leg after a tree fell on her car is now giving back to the community after she won a multi-million dollar settlement from the City of Savannah.

WTOC caught up with Shanta Greene and her family exclusively on Monday.

Greene is still waiting for a few more surgeries before she can be fitted for a prosthetic leg, but in the meantime, she is teaming up with Toots for Books Literacy Foundation to hold a back to school extravaganza on Sunday, July 27 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The first 50 children will get a free uniform, and there will be backpacks and supplies, along with hair cuts from Elle Mitchell Salon.

"The community, they stuck by me through courts, they supported me, and I feel like without them, I wouldn't have the help I needed," said Greene. "So I want to give back because I was the person who needed help last year and the year before, and they came to my aid, and so I want to give back to the less fortunate."

Greene also said she is excited about getting married to her long-time boyfriend and father of her children next month, but first, she has the Back to School Extravaganza at the Elle Mitchell Salon on DeRenne Avenue.
