Jack Kingston holds rally leading up to runoff election

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

There were some tense moments on Tuesday at a rally for Congressman Jack Kingston.

A heckler started pressing the representative about several issues.

The heckler said there are so many attack ads against each candidate that it's hard to know what good either of them has done.

Kingston went back and forth with the man for a while, but overall, the rally was filled with more than a dozen supporters who cheered for Kingston and waited to shake his hand and take pictures with him.

Kingston said that it has been far too long since there has been a Senator from Savannah, and he hopes to change that.

"Savannah has not had a U.S. senator since 1877," said Kingston. "You know, I grew up on these streets, politically. I'm a phone call away, I've never lost my Georgia values. I fought hard for Georgia values and to take them to Washington, and not to bring Washington values to Georgia."

After the rally, Kingston cast his early ballot, voting of course, for himself.

Kingston will face businessman David Perdue in the race for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.

The runoff election is July 22.
