SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah community came together on Tuesday night to hear from the candidates as the Savannah branch of the NAACP held a meet and greet event with the candidates at the Pentecostal Deliverance Center.

They invited a lot of the candidates running for First District U.S. Representative, U.S. Senate, State School Superintendent and Chatham County School Board President.

Members hoped this gathering gave voters a chance to get to know the candidates and make a more informed decision before they go to the polls.

"The school presidency is very important," said Al Scott, president of the Savannah branch of the NAACP. "That's the person who sets policy for th school system, also the person who supervises Dr. Lockamy, and it's also the person who has a great deal to say about what your millage rate is going to be in terms of funding public education in Chatham County."

WTOC's own Sonny Dixon was the moderator for the forum. The Georgia runoff is on Tuesday.
