The Facebook Scams

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

More scams are being perpetrated on Facebook and social media.

This particular scam is so rampant, the Effingham County Sheriff's Office issued a warning.

Think about how many of your friends are on Facebook, and now, throw in the fact there are not one, but two Facebook scams out there. One is a lottery hoax, and both pretend to be Facebook.

Authorities said they have seen a number of complaints about scammers creating their own Facebook emblem strikingly similar to Facebook's and attempting to hack accounts.

They will ask for your password and personal identification information, but don't fall for it! Facebook will not message you on your profile, they will email you from a verified email address.

The other Facebook scam involves thieves posing as Facebook and trying to steal your money. In this scam, scammers are using a Facebook logo and sending people private messages, claiming they won a Facebook lottery and to send them $200 or $300 through a PayPal account, and in return, you will get several thousand dollars.

Obviously, if you win the lottery, you will not win the lottery through Facebook.
