ECSO investigates after pedestrian struck, killed on Honey Ridge Rd

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Honey Ridge Road in Effingham County is back open following a fatal crash that left one woman dead.

According to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle was traveling east Thursday night on Honey Ridge near Floyd Avenue in the small unincorporated community of Pineora just south of the City of Guyton, when it struck Marilyn Wood, 56, of Guyton who was walking in the middle of the roadway.

GSP is investigating to determine exactly what happened before the crash.

"I think anytime you drive a vehicle and you hit a pedestrian and that pedestrian dies, anyone is going to be shook up. So obviously he's visibly shaken, just like anyone of us would be," said David Ehsanipoor, ECSO.

Honey Ridge Road re-opened just before 1 a.m. Friday.
