Volunteers prepare for Beaufort Water Festival kick off

The Beaufort Water Festival is approaching fast and volunteers have gathered to make sure everything will run smoothly for the 10 days of excitement at Beaufort's Waterfront park.

The heavy lifting by these hard working volunteers started on Tuesday and a number of things had to be taken care of before the festivities start up.

The stage is being constructed along with gates and tents for the vendors by 400 volunteers who have shown relentless dedication to making the Beaufort Water Festival perfect this year.

Volunteer Bill Damued said, "We're all volunteers, no one gets paid for this. People give up their free time. People take vacation to work for the water festival, and we have great support from the military bases."

The festival officially opens on Friday evening with an appearance by U.S. Representative Mark Stanford, a concert by the Parris Island Marine Band, and a fireworks display in Beaufort.
