Crew members speak after casino boat runs aground

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Crew members are speaking for the first time after the Escapade casino cruise ship ran aground on a sandbar off of Tybee Island earlier this week.

One crew member said this has been a crazy week, but he said he can't wait to get back to work and is excited for the next time the Escapade goes out.

An investigation is underway as to why and how the ship ran aground. The captain has declined to comment at this point. One crew member said his main job when the ship grounded was to keep the boat clean, the passengers calm and said the info released to those on board was on a need to know basis.

There was also concern from passengers who felt the crew was not trained for a crisis like this, but one worker said that is not the case.

"Yes, we were prepared for situations like this, like man overboard, any fire drills, thinks like this crisis, we knew exactly what to do," said Henry Speaks. "I think we did everything we could have, it was just not up to the customers' expectations."

When asked when the boat plans to sail again, Speaks said he was not told a firm date.

The management team for the Escapade has not commented, but they have said there is no damage to the ship.
