A Pie for a Pint Campaign

Thanksgiving is just a few days away, and most of us are spending hours in the kitchen getting ready for a big feast. But in Bluffton, South Carolina, the Palmetto Chapter of the Red Cross is taking care of the baking for those who help save a life.

It's all part of their Pie for a Pint blood drive. Piggly Wiggly grocery stores donated pies of all kinds: pumpkin, pecan and sweet potato. They were all given to those who donated blood today. Blood that is desperately needed this time of year.

"Typically we do see an increase of accidents on the highways during the holiday period, so we see an increased need for blood at the same time the collections drop off," said director Larry Rockwell.

The blood drive closes at 6pm tonight at the Red Cross in Bluffton. But if you didn't get a chance to donate today, you still have time. Contact the Palmetto Chapter of the American Red Cross for more dates and times: 843-757-7437.
