Tattnall County woman denied bond in murder case

TATTNALL CO., GA (WTOC) -

A Tattnall County woman accused of murder made her first appearance in court on Monday.

Barbara Polke was arrested on Friday after claiming someone else shot her roommate in a moving car.

She didn't wait for a jury trial to proclaim her innocence in a Tattnall County court.

Polke came to the courthouse to be formally charged with murder and other counts connected to the shooting death of Ashley Sharpe.

On July 11, Polke said she and Sharpe were driving near the edge of Lyons when someone shot at them, hit Sharpe, and she sped towards Reidsville. Sharpe died on the way.

Deputies arrested Polke on Friday. On Monday, she told Magistrate Judge Eddie Anderson that she had done nothing wrong and didn't understand why she was charged. She also didn't understand why she couldn't get bond.

Judge Anderson told Polke that would be up to a Superior Court judge to decide and sent her back to jail.

Investigators said they hope to have this case ready to present to a grand jury at the next term in October.
