CAIRO (CNN) –U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is in Cairo to push for an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

Kerry met with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon for a bilateral meeting at the Fairmont Hotel in Cairo.

Kerry announced the U.S. will donate $47 million in humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.

It comes amid a soaring death toll. Israel lost seven soldiers on Monday, including four killed on its own soil during an ambush.

Officials inside the Gaza Health Ministry say at least 550 people have been killed since the conflict began.
