Savannah City Manager talks big issues

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

City Manager Stephanie Cutter has a lot on her plate.

Between seven back to back shootings coupled with the continued search for a new police chief, WTOC wanted to hear the latest from one of Savannah's highest officials.

Cutter was in attendance at a meet and greet with the city's sanitation employees, a department near and dear to her heart because that was where Cutter started her career with the city.

In a one-one interview, Cutter said things are on track with the search for a new chief, saying the list of applicants has been narrowed down to 30, and soon she will begin narrowing the stack even more with the county manager.

"We have to make sure we are implementing programs to deter crime," said Cutter. "We have to make sure that people have jobs so that they can feed their families. It's a tough issue, and you can't piecemeal addressing the issue."

Cutter said they are still hoping to select and have a new chief in office by September.
