Beaufort Water Festival good for local economy

The Beaufort Water Festival is 10 days most businesses in Beaufort enjoy every year, because along with the huge crowd comes a huge boost in their sales.

The final numbers aren't in yet, but so far everyone said their business is doing great this week – even a lot better than last year despite the rain, the noise ordnance and some changes with a few of the events.

From restaurants, to boutiques and art galleries, business is booming.

Nan Sutton, the owner of Lulus Boutique looked at her sale reports from the weekend and is thrilled with the outcome so far.

"Yeah, we've been...they were busy. On the days I was gone it was up from last year," Sutton said.

Sutton said over the past five days, she's had about a five percent increase compared to last year.

And many other businesses on Bay Street say they've noticed an increase as well.

"The water festival this year compared to last year has been really, really busy. This year it seems like there's a lot more people in town so we've really had to double up on a lot of her inventory," Stefani Snowberger with Barefoot Bubbas said.

"It's great every year. We always make a bunch of money. It's really good for the community, and good for us as a business," Jay Marshall of Lurther's Restaurant said.

The final numbers aren't in yet because the festival is still going on, so we don't know exactly how many folks are attending compared to last year's, or how much of a boost this has been for the city's economy.
