Overnight shooting makes eleventh in just over a week for Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Metro Police are asking for the public's help with any information as they investigate another shooting that happened overnight in Savannah.

Officers responded to the scene of an early morning shooting on Savannah's West Side around 3 a.m. Thursday at West 36th and Florance streets. Officials say Shawn Jackson was found with at least one gunshot wound there.

Jackson was taken to Memorial University Medical Center with what police say were non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the shooting does appear to be targeted and there is no threat to the community.

Florance Street had to be closed between 35th and 36th streets for a couple of hours as investigators examined the crime scene, but those roads reopened to traffic just before 5 a.m.

Savannah-Chatham Metro officials say this makes the eleventh shooting in a week and a half, starting with a shooting in the late night hours of July 15th, where one man was found shot at the corner of Whitaker and Hall streets right by Forsyth Park.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department spokesman, Julian Miller, gave a statement about the recent rash of shootings in the area.

"We have had a good run of bad luck here and of course any police department would be concerned and will try to take steps to address those issues," he stated.

Investigators say the recent shootings do not seem to be connected and they also do not seem to be random. They say all of the shootings seem to be targeted at specific people or locations, but they are not aware of any of the shootings being gang related.

Police have not yet released a description of a suspect or suspects in Thursday morning's shooting, but they are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything to please come forward.

"This is a busy neighborhood, a lot of houses around, a lot of people around. If anybody saw anything, we would appreciate it if someone could help us by calling CrimeStoppers and sharing that information," said Miller.

Contact CrimeStoppers at 912.234.2020 or the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department with any information.
