WALTHOURVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

A Walthourville police officer attempting to initiate a traffic stop was involved in a chase on Talmadge Road in Walthourville Wednesday night.

According to Walthourville Police Chief Tracy McFadden, the chase ended when the vehicle carrying 4 people wrecked into some trees on Talmadge Road around 9:30 p.m.

An 18-year-old woman who was sitting in the rear was seriously injured and was flown by a medical helicopter to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. Police say two other passengers fled the scene on foot, and one other passenger was treated at the scene and released.

Authorities searched a wide area along Talmadge Road for the 2 suspects that fled, but did not locate them.

"GSP is investigating. We did contact the owner of the vehicle. He was unaware the vehicle was not at the residence and there are no reports from Liberty County that the vehicle was reported stolen," says McFadden.

If you have any information, contact the Walthourville Police Department.
