SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Chatham County District Attorney Meg Heap announced Family Violence Training to be held jointly for victims' advocates, local law enforcement and the area's prosecutors.

The training took place today from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. in the Bryan Room at the Savannah Civic Center.

The program included training sessions on preparation of police reports, warrants and bond conditions; team work for prosecutors, law enforcement and victims' advocates; the new strangulation law; understanding the dynamics of domestic violence and victim behavior; and an information session on elder abuse and domestic violence.

"Domestic violence is a growing problem in Chatham County," said Heap. "Understanding the dynamics of the situation and preparing our law enforcement officers and prosecutors to build solid cases is an imperative for my office."

Last year in Chatham County, there were over 650 cases of domestic violence that were handled by the District Attorney's Office. To date for this year, there have been 475 cases of domestic violence managed by the same office.
