Fake valor caught on camera?

A video of a man claiming to be a soldier has quickly gone viral – he even name drops Fort Stewart. But a group of Marines quickly calls the man out in the most shocking of settings.

The man claims to be a U.S. Army Sergeant Major, a military policeman and special forces operator, and showed up to a military funeral in West Palm Beach, FL. The man was met by retired Marines, and what starts as cordial, after one too many lies turned confrontational.

"I'm going to call you out on it right now...this one is your Bronze Star. You are not even wearing the proper infantry uniform," said one Marine in the video.

WTOC tried contacting the Marines who filmed the video, but the post on Facebook had been deleted.

WTOC did get in touch with Fort Stewart and sent officials the video.

"We can with almost 100 percent certainty say the person wearing the uniform in the video is not a soldier. Some indicators to look for that are seen in this video include wearing both ribbons and medals at the same time, wearing officer insignia with non-commissioned officer rank, and not knowing military regulation," the officials said.

President Barack Obama signed the Stolen Valor Act into law in June 2013.

The man in the video ended up leaving in his car which had Florida plates, even though he said he drove in from Fort Bragg.

He was not soliciting money, but Fort Stewart officials also warn that a military member in uniform should not ask for money or donations.

They also told WTOC it is a violation of federal law to wear a military uniform when not authorized and can be prosecuted under law.
