Savannah Municipal Government celebrating 225 years

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The City of Savannah Municipal Government will celebrate its 225th anniversary in December.

In recognition of the community milestone, Virginia and John Duncan of V & J Duncan Antique Maps and Prints are sharing, from their personal collections, historical maps, prints and postcards of Savannah through a new City Hall exhibit that opened on Friday.

The exhibit is open to the public through Dec. 31 and it is located in the first floor rotunda of City Hall. IN addition to the exhibit, a special digital postcard collection has been made accessible to the public through the city's research library and municipal archives.

"Students can use it for school projects," said Luciana Spracher from the City of Savannah."Historians can use it as they're trying to find out what something looked like, how something may have changed over time and the city staff will be able to use it as we do research as we move forward to make decisions about new projects."

The collection includes images of Savannah's parks and squares, prominent streets, historic homes and public buildings and much more.
