Shanta Greene giving back through back to school extravaganza

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A Savannah woman who lost her leg after a tree fell on her car is now giving back to the community after she won a multi-million dollar settlement from the City of Savannah by hosting a Back to School Extravaganza.

Shanta Greene is teaming up with Toots for Books Literacy Foundation Inc. for the back to school event on Sunday, July 27th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m at the Elle Mitchell Salon in Savannah.

The Back to School Extravaganza is a free event and there will be a school supply giveaway and uniforms will be given out to the first 50 students to arrive.

Shanta Green said in preparation for the event, "the community, they stuck by me through courts, they supported me, and I feel like without them, I wouldn't have the help I needed," said Greene. "So I want to give back because I was the person who needed help last year and the year before, and they came to my aid, and so I want to give back to the less fortunate."

The Elle Mitchell Salon will be giving out free haircuts to school-age children, the salon is located at 38-C Derenne Avenue in Savannah.
