Savannah City Council is still working on its budget for next year, and at this point board members are not expecting a tax increase. Today they met with Leisure Services, Cultural Affairs and the police department to discuss their budgets. Mayor Otis Johnson says it's important for the council to make sure the right amount of money goes to each program or department.
"It looks right now that we will have resources necessary to continue a high level of performance and service and commitment and to even allocate more money to the police and our anti-poverty initiative," the mayor said.
Here's some good news for taxpayers: city officials say they may even be able to lower the millage rate this year.
