BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A woman was killed and two others injured early Sunday morning when shots were fired in Ensley.

Officials say a group of people were outside listening to music and socializing when shots rang out in the 1600 block of Avenue I around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to witnesses, the young woman who was killed was trying to outrun the gunfire.

Officers found 26-year-old Ashley Gunn from Fairfield lying face down in the street suffering a gunshot wound to the back. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police are investigating Gunn's death as a homicide.

A man and a woman were also shot and taken to UAB Hospital for treatment. They are expected to recover from their injuries.

Police say the two men wanted in the shooting ran from the scene. They have not yet been caught.

The shooting prompted one resident to post anti-violence signs around the neighborhood.

"I felt it's really needed to put on a street corner, telephone poll, so that people at least can read it, and say 'Hey man, we need to stop this violence'here on this street," John Meehan said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Birmingham police at 205-254-1764.
