Man arrested after deadly St. Helena Island wreck

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Joseph Smalls, Jr, 29, of St. Helena Island is behind bars on Wednesday facing felony DUI.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said he was arrested in connection with the wreck that killed 25-year-old Ebony Jenkins over the weekend.

Investigators said Smalls was driving on U.S. Highway 21 near Airport Circle when he lost control and hit a utility pole, forcing the car to overturn into a marsh.

Jenkins was partially thrown from the car.
