Bulloch County students start new school year

Buses rolled up highways and through neighborhoods as Bulloch County schools began a new year. More than 10,000 students made their way to 15 schools for the first day.

School administrators said the year is about further improving the district after replacing several campuses over the past few years.

They also know starting on a Friday draws questions from some.

"When we look at the number of school days, split them into two semesters - you also want to give a week for fall break, a week for Thanksgiving, etc., you're almost backed into certain days to start," explained superintendent Charles Wilson.

Wilson also said the weekend gives students and parents the chance to receive school info and be more prepared to be productive on the second day of classes.

The early start also means an early end. Students will finish the year May 29.
